1Why Actoplus met is prescribed?

Actoplus met is a medication that is a combination of two drugs i.e metformin and pioglitazone. It is generally prescribed for those patients that are not taking insulin injection regularly to treat hyperglycemic condition. It is used to treat type 2 diabetes mellitus i.e to control blood sugar level of blood. 

2How to use?

Actoplus met is a oral medication that is usually taken once or twice daily with meals to avoid stomach upset. It is beneficial to take the dose each day at the same time. The dose is based on your medical condition and the other medications that you can take. 

3What if I miss a dose or overdose?

If u forget to take a dose, take it later as early as you remember. If the time is exceeded to the time of next dose, then skip the missed dose and continue with the next dose. Don't take both the doses at a same time to avoid any overdose or to catch up the missed dose. 

If you take higher doses than the prescribed dose then it leads to overdose and always needs a urgent emergency response. Some symptoms are shown due to the overdose that are severe nasea/ vomiting /diarrhoea, irregular heart rate, lactic acidosis, difficulty in breathing etc. If any symptoms are realized then call your physician or any local poison control centre without any delay. 

4Side Effects

Some side effects that are shown by Actoplus met tablets are nausea, vomiting, stomach upset, weakness, sore throat, muscle pain, weight gain, tooth problems or a metallic taste may occur. If any of these symptoms persist or worsen, tell your physician or pharmacist promptly. Pioglitazone may cause liver disease,so call your doctor right away if you realize any symptoms of liver disease, including: dark urine, yellowing of eyes or skin, persistent nausea or vomiting, stomach or abdominal pain etc.

5Interactions:

Drug interaction may change efficacy of drug that how your medications work or increase your risk for serious side effects. It may interact with various drugs include rifampicin, blood thinners, beta blockers. These are not enough interactions, Consult to your physician for Other. If you want to take or change any other medications then consult it with your physician. 

6Precautions:

  • If you realize any hypersensitivity reaction, inform to your physician. 
  • Describe your proper medical history to your physician. 
  • Don't drive and any activity that requires alertness. 
  • Limit alcohol as it may increases the risk of lactic acidosis. 
  • If you take any herbal or allopathic medication for any other disorder inform to your physician.
