1Why is Forxiga prescribed?

Forxiga  is an oral diabetes medicine that contains dapagliflozin as an active ingredient. It helps to control blood sugar levels by removing excess sugar of your body from urine. Forxiga is used as alone or together with some other Anti diabetic medications that may help to enhance its pharmaceutical activity. It can be prescribed to the patient with type 2 diabetes mellitus. 

2How to use it ?

Forxiga tablets can be used with or without food, but it is beneficial to take it regularly at the same time. Swallow the drug as a whole and don't chew, crush or break the tablet.  It is used with diet and exercise to improve the effectiveness of the drug or to control the blood sugar level. 

3What if I miss a dose or overdose?

If you forgot to take a dose, then don't be panicked about it, skip the dose and go back to your regular schedule. Don't take both the doses at the same time to catch up the missed dose, it may lead to overdose. 

If you take higher doses than the prescribed dose then it leads to overdose that always needs urgent medical supervision. Consult with your physician or pharmacist if you overdose or call any poison control centre right away. 

4Side-effects:

Side-effects of forxiga tablets may include nausea, urinary tract infection, increased thirst, frequent urge to urinate, vaginal itching, genital or fungal infection, constipation, fatigue and dehydration. These are not including all the side effects some others may also occur, consult your physician or pharmacist if any of the side effects occur. 

5Drug Interactions:

Interactions can be of any type that may be due to use of another drug or may be due to any diseased condition. There are 4 disease conditions that interact with forxiga tablets which include renal dysfunction, hyperkalemia, hyperlipidemia, and hypertension. Drug interaction may lead to some severe symptoms that seek an emergency medical attention. Describe your proper medical history to your physician to avoid any type of interaction. 

6Precautions:

• Drink plenty of fluids as it causes dehydration. 
• It is used with caution in patients with cardiac or renal impairment. 
• Always carry some sugar candies or fruit juice that can be used in case of hypoglycemic conditions. 
• Try to maintain hygiene as it may cause some genital or fungal infection.
