1Why Glucotrol XL is prescribed:-

Glucotrol XL is an extended release medication that helps to extend the release rate of a drug for a longer period of time. These tablets release the medication slowly into the bloodstream . It is helpful for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus. It is generally prescribed for those patients whose blood sugar level is too high and can’t be controlled by a dietary plan alone. It is a prescription medicine that is meant for oral use.

2How to use Glipizide (Glucotrol)?

Glucotrol XL is meant for oral use, swallow the whole drug, don't chew, crush or break the tablet. It is recommended to take the glipizide tablets on an empty stomach 30 minutes before breakfast . Take the dose as recommended by your physician. It is better to take the dose each day at the same time. 

3What if I miss a dose or overdose?

If you forget to take a dose, take it later as early as you remember. If the time is exceeded to the time of the next dose, then skip the missed dose and continue with the next dose. Don't take both the doses at a same time to avoid any overdose or to catch up the missed dose. 

If you take higher doses than the prescribed dose then it leads to overdose and always needs an urgent emergency response. In this case some symptoms are shown like chest tightness, itching, fever, sore throat, and bad cough. If any symptoms are realized then call your physician or any local poison control centre. 

4Glucotrol (Glipizide) Side-effects:

Side-effects of Glucotrol tablets are low blood sugar, anxiety, confusion, raising heartbeat, sweating, weight gain or upset stomach. These are not enough side effects that are shown by Glucotrol,some others may also occur. Consult your physician if any severe side effects are shown. 

5Glucotrol Drug Interactions:

Glucotrol tablet may interact with various drugs that include NSAIDS, Beta blockers, calcium channel blockers, blood thinners, antibiotics, and some other antidiabetic medications. To avoid all types of interaction, you will be advised to take the drug as recommended by your physician. If you take any medication other than diabetes, inform to your physician. 

6Precautions :

  • Avoid alcohol. 
  • If you have any hypersensitivity with the drug then inform your physician. 
  • If you have any cardiac or renal impairment, tell it to your physician. 
  • Part of the tablet may appear in your stool that is normal and don't be panicked about it. 
  • Follow all the instructions carefully when you are taking this drug.
