Glibenclamide is a generic name for Glyburide drugs, which is used to treat diabetes type2. This drug may be used with other antidiabetic medication. Please do not use this drug by itself in diabetes mellitus type 1.

1Why is Glyburide (Glibenclamide) prescribed?

Glyburide is an oral prescription drug that belongs to a class of medication called sulphonylurea. It is prescribed to treat type 2 diabetes in which the patient's body is not able to produce enough insulin that's why they can't control the blood sugar level of the body. 

2How to use it?

It is highly recommended to take it with diet and exercise. It can also be used with some other diabetic medications that may help to enhance its effectiveness. Swallow the drug as whole and don't chew, crush or break the tablet. 

3What if I miss a dose or overdose?

If you forget to take a dose, don't be panic, you can take it later. If the time exceeded the time of the next dose, then skip the previous dose. Don't take both the doses at the same time to avoid any overdose of the drug. 

Overdose of glyburide, may lead to severe side effects .In this case, Consult to your health care profession as early as possible. Or you can also call any poison control centre.

Side-effects of glyburide may include symptoms like Nausea, stomach pain, loss of appetite, dark urine, jaundice, confusion etc.

There are various causes of drug interactions like drugs are taken with beverages, supplements, or other drugs. 

Glyburide may interact with various drugs and leads to moderate to severe interactions. It may interact with insulin, metformin ,Januvia, frusemide, and metoprolol etc. Some other interactions may also occur, Consult your physician for it. 

6Glibenclamide Precautions:

  • Don't take the drug without prescription. 

  • Avoid alcoholic beverages. 

  • If you have any cardiac or renal impairment, inform your physician. 

  • Inform your proper medical history to your physician.
