1Why is Glyset prescribed?

Glyset (Miglitol) tablets are the prescription drug that is used to control the blood sugar level. It helps by Inhibiting the action of sucrose in the body. It is prescribed for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus in which the blood sugar level is too high. Glyset tablets delay the digestion of carbohydrates that is a form of sugar and thereby helps to reduce sugar level. 

2How to use it ?

It is highly recommended to take Glyset tablet with meals. It helps to reduce the blood sugar level that is passed to your blood after meal, if you take the drug before meal. It is beneficial to take the dose each day at the same time. Consult your doctor if you want to change the routine of your medication. 

3What if I miss a dose or overdose?

If you forgot to take a dose then don't be panicked about it and take it as early as you remember. If the time is exceeded to the next dose then skip the previous dose and continue the regular schedule. Don't take both the doses at a same time to avoid any overdose. 

Overdose of the tablet may need an emergency medical attention. Try to avoid any overdose of the drug as it may cause some serious problems that may be fatal. Overdose may leads to hypoglycemia that can be treated with only a dextrose based source of sugar,as Glyset stop the action of sucrose. Consult your physician if you realize any symptoms of hypoglycemia. 

4Side-effects:

Common side effects of Glyset tablets may include abdominal pain, diarrhoea, gastrointestinal

5Drug Interactions:

Miglitol tablets may interact with various drugs and leads to moderate to severe symptoms that may be fatal. Consult your physician if you realize any interaction or call to any poison control centre right away. 

6Precautions on taking Glyset:

  • Avoid driving as it causes dizziness.
