Soriatane

1Why Soriatane is prescribed:-

Soriatane (acitretin) is prescribed in patients with severe psoriasis, plaque, or guttate. It is a retinoid, that is a form of vitamin A. Soriatane is basically given after other psoriasis medicines are unsuccessful in the treatment.  

2How to use it?

Soriatane comes under the oral preparation that is taken by mouth. It is recommended to take it with food. The dose is prescribed by your physician or pharmacist that is usually based on your medical condition. To get more effect on this drug it may take 2-3 months. It is beneficial to take the dose exactly as prescribed by your physician or pharmacist.

3What if I miss a dose or overdose?

If you forgot to take a dose, take it later, but assure that the time is not exceeded to the time of the next dose. If time is nearer to the next dose then skip that dose and go back to your regular routine.

The overdose of drugs may show some severe symptoms headache, nausea, vomiting, drowsiness, irritability, loss of balance, and itching. Consult with your physician while you take more than one dose at a time or call to any poison control center.

4Side-effects:

There are some common side effects that may be shown by Soriatane tablets are more redness, itching, skin scaling, peeling or dry skin, dry eyes, irritation in eyes, dry mouth, runny nose, thirst, and sometimes hair loss may also occur. If any of these effects persist or worsen, consult with your physician or pharmacist promptly. 

5Drug Interactions:

Drug interaction changes the working of the drug and enhances the risk of various side effects. Methotrexate and some antibiotics may interact with it. Consult with your physician or pharmacist, for avoiding any type of interactions. Don't take or stop the medication without consulting to your physician or never take with other medications.

6Precautions

  • Avoid any alcoholic beverages. 
  • If you are allergic to any ingredient present in it, discontinue the drug. 
  • Don't wear contact lenses while using this drug 
  • Never share your medicine with other people having the same symptoms as yours. 
  • Follow all the instructions carefully to avoid any adverse effects
