Why Sinemet is prescribed:-
Sinemet is a branded drug that contains a combination of two drugs i.e. Levodopa and carbidopa. Sinemet is prescribed to treat some symptoms of Parkinson's disease like shakiness, stiffness, difficulty in moving.
How to use:-
Sinemet is an oral drug that can be swallowed, not to chew, crush or break the tablet. Taken in an empty stomach i.e without a meal is recommended. It is more beneficial to take the dose each day at the same time.
What if I miss a dose or overdose:-
If u forget to take a dose, you can take it later. But assure that the time is not exceeded to the time of the next dose. You can skip the dose if the time is nearer to the next dose. Don't take both doses at the same time to avoid an overdose of the drug. Overdose of Sinemet may cause any severe problems i.e it may be fatal. In this case, consult your health care professional as early as possible. Or you can also call to any poison control center.
Side-effects:-
Side-effects of Sinemet including dizziness, drowsiness, heartburn, dry mouth, stuffy nose, rashes, dyspepsia, etc.
Interactions:-
As drug interactions are the most important factor that helps in the adjustment of the dose taken by any patient. Interactions generally affect the efficacy of a drug. So it is better to describe your medical history to your physician, so they can balance the dose of that drug to avoid any interaction. Sinemet may interact with various drug-like metoclopramide, isoniazid, phenytoin, antihypertensive agents, antidepressants. It may also affect milk production if used during pregnancy.
Precautions:-
Avoid any alcoholic beverages. Avoid driving and any other work that needs alertness. Not to be taken without a prescription or any consultation with the physician. If you have any liver or kidney disorder then tell it to your health care professional. If you take any herbal or allopathic, cardiac medication then tell it to your physician or pharmacist. Tell to your physician if are allergic to any active or non-active ingredients of this medication.
Important:-
Sinemet is a combination of levodopa and carbidopa. Levodopa is a dopamine precursor whereas carbidopa is a peripheral decarboxylase inhibitor. Carbidopa is also known as a levodopa enhancer that helps levodopa by preventing it from being broken down before it reaches the brain. If levodopa is taken without carbidopa than it causes nausea.
